A mom’s mission to build a playground where both her daughters can thrive becomes a global movement to design inclusive spaces where everyone can play, connect, and belong.

About Magical Bridge: Kind by Design

How would you feel if you arrived at a playground and realized it wasn’t designed with your family in mind? Maybe one of your children has a disability or you are a parent that uses a wheelchair? This is a reality families around the world face daily. While typical playgrounds are compliant to law, most do not consider the neurodiverse and physical needs 1 in every 4 of us live with today.

Inspired by two daughters, one with and one without a disability, Olenka Villarreal discovered today’s “inclusive” and “accessible” playgrounds are still remarkably unwelcoming to too many. She set out to create a new kind of playground designed for all ages and abilities—one that promotes acceptance and kindness in an increasingly isolating world. Magical Bridge: Kind By Design shares how one mom’s mission has grown into a global movement to design truly inclusive spaces that unite community, improve health and wellbeing, and foster kindness, empathy, and belonging. When a playground is often a child’s first outdoor classroom, shouldn’t it be a most welcoming place to us all?
